We asked our photographers to choose their favorite moments from May 2022, and here are some of the moments they selected.

The month started with the Angels on a hot streak and runners racing along the coast during the O.C. Marathon. Sports were also winding up at the high schools as baseball and softball champions were crowned.

Despite a mostly cool month, the wind kicked up across Aliso Woods Canyon and moved the Coastal Fire into Laguna Niguel. Twenty homes burned, including a seven-bedroom estate on nearly half an acre that was one signature away from being sold. The house, overlooking Laguna Beach, boasted a two-level library, a “children’s wing” just for the kids and a “wellness wing to house your meditation room, gym and very own Pilates studio with sauna and steam room.” The kitchen had been recently renovated before the home was listed for $9.898 million. Luckily, no one was injured.

Families got their first look at the animal-less circus at “The Circus Vargas Express” show. The performances include; aerial tricks, balancing acts, the “Wheel of Death” act and more.

Despite sad news from schools in other parts of the country, students in Orange County started celebrating their graduations as the first batch of local schools said goodbye to their seniors.

And fans from a galaxy far, far away gathered at a convention center nearby during Star Wars Celebration. The three-day convention brought out geeks and nerds dressed as their favorite characters from the dark and light sides.

Take a look at the video and follow The Orange County Register on Facebook and Instagram. Here are our staff photographers’ individual pages: Paul Bersebach, Jeff Gritchen, Leonard Ortiz, Mark Rightmire, and Mindy Schauer.
