We asked our photographers to choose their favorite moments from April 2022, and here are some of the moments they selected.

Spring is in the air and baseball is on the field as the Angels opened their season and high school teams head toward the playoffs.

While the Halos greeted a sell-out crowd at the Big A, they lost their home opener to the Houston Astros. The rest of the month went much better as the team closed out April in first place in the American League West.

The other professional sports team in Anaheim – The Ducks – announced the retirement of their team captain, Ryan Getzlaf, at the end of the season. He’s the franchise’s all-time leading scorer.

Also in Anaheim, costumed visitors to WonderCon greeted each other outside the convention center as the small version of Comic-Con returned.

Over in Cypress, Francine Ramos Myles discovered her cheerleading outfit from her days at St. Pius V in Buena Park. A Cypress woman found a former resident’s long-lost treasures — paintings by the now-deceased mom, cheerleader uniforms — in her attic. She tracked down the painter’s daughter, Francine Ramos Myles via Facebook. Myles was reunited with the items on Saturday, April 2, 2022.

Along the coast, Sailors took to the seas during the Newport to Ensenada boat race. The competition is a 125-mile journey from Newport Beach to Mexico with several categories of racers and shorter races that end in Dana Point and San Diego.

Before this year’s graduates get their moment in the sun next month, the class of 1946-1952 Santa High School held a reunion at Rodrigo’s Mexican Grill in Tustin. Dorothy Bullock, 90, showed up with a Class of 1949 sweater. She has been organizing the class reunions for over 20 years but claims that this will be the last one.

And, COVID-19 is still in the news as Jason Elliott took possession of his dad’s 1956 Chevy Bel Air after his father, Stephen Elliott died from, “complications caused by COVID-19 and acute stubbornness,” according to his obituary, after refusing to get vaccinated. Classic cars was “one of our biggest bonds,” Jason said.
