An Arizona man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a woman who was found in a car trunk in Huntington Beach, authorities said on Tuesday.

On Monday, Nov. 6, the Holbrook, Arizona Police Department reported 54-year-old Christi Lynn Romero and her car missing from her residence in Holbrook, according to a press release from the department.

Police began searching for her “estranged boyfriend,” 34-year-old Holbrook resident Richard Paul Rodriguez. Rodriguez had been served with a protective order and removed from Romero’s residence days earlier.

Officers from the Huntington Beach Police Department were sent to the 17000 block of Friml Lane at about 5:15 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 6 for a call about a family disturbance.

Officers found a dead woman in the trunk of a car at the scene. The woman, according to the Holbrook Police Department, was confirmed to be Romero by the Orange County Coroner’s Office.

Rodriguez was arrested by the Huntington Beach Police Department and booked on suspicion of murder.

“The investigation into this incident is still ongoing, and no further details will be released at this time,” police said.
