A man was arrested Sunday, Oct. 1, on suspicion of shooting a gun in a busy parking lot behind Porto’s Bakery and Cafe in Buena Park during a traffic dispute, possibly over a parking spot, authorities said Monday. No one was injured.

Buena Park police responded to the parking lot, in the 7600 block of Beach Boulevard, about 6 p.m., Cpl. Martin Tomsick said.

“No one was hit,” Tomsick said. “At this time we don’t know where those two rounds were fired.”

Whether the suspect targeted the other person or fired shots in the air was unclear, Tomsick said.

Witnesses told police the shooting may have been the result of an argument over a parking spot, Tomsick said.

A witness told OnSceneTV that two drivers were attempting to park in a stall in the busy parking lot after another motorist backed out and drove away. Video showed officers investigating a minivan that had been parked in a stall and taking a man away in handcuffs.

A gun was found at the scene and the other driver remained and spoke with officers, Tomsick said.

The popular bakery and cafe opened its Buena Park location in March 2017 and more than 1,500 people lined up for the grand opening.
