We asked our photographers to choose their favorite images from February 2022, and here are some of the moments they selected.

As March rolled in the days got longer and the temperature rose – then It got colder and rained.

Spring isn’t the only thing that added color to the month, hundreds of people ran through multi-hued powder during The Color Run at Huntington State Beach. The Color Run is a 5K, untimed event. At each kilometer mark, Color Runners are doused from head to toe in a different colored powder.

As far as color goes, blue and yellow also started to fill our view this month as landmarks around Southern California were illuminated to show support for Ukraine.

Down in Dana Point, the color of the day was gray as the Festival of Whales returned to the city.

It wasn’t all bright colors and fun – hundreds of police vehicles drove through the county during a procession for Huntington Beach Police Officer Nicholas Vella. The officer died when his helicopter hit a strip of water between Lido Isle and the Balboa Peninsula. Vella, a 14-year veteran with the police department, died in the crash. He leaves behind a wife and daughter.

Way down south in Tijuana, Ukrainians waited at the border to enter the United States. After Russia invaded Ukraine, the U.S. agreed to grant asylum to 100,000 Ukrainians.

Click through the chosen photos and follow The Orange County Register on Facebook and Instagram. Here are our staff photographers’ individual pages: Paul Bersebach, Jeff Gritchen, Leonard Ortiz, Mark Rightmire, and Mindy Schauer.
