Orange County football Top 25: Mater Dei still at No. 1, JSerra rises again as playoffs begin

JSerra climbs to No. 3 in the Orange County poll after a big win over Servite

ORANGE COUNTY FOOTBALL TOP 25 

Notable this week: Mater Dei concluded the regular season where it started in the county rankings, at No. 1. … JSerra moves up three spots after a 49-0 win over Servite. … Mission Viejo switches places with Los Alamitos. … San Clemente is the county’s top-ranked public school team at No. 4.

1. Mater Dei 9-1 (75 points)

The Monarchs defense scored two touchdowns, Ramere Davis on a fumble recovery and Jelani Davis on an interception return, in a 35-19 win over Santa Margarita. The Monarchs are seeded second in the eight-team Division 1 bracket for the CIF-SS playoffs.

2. Orange Lutheran 5-5 (70)

The Lancers lost to St. John Bosco 49-22 and finished tied with JSerra for third in the Trinity League. Orange Lutheran is in the Division 1 playoff bracket. The Lancers will play at Centennial of Corona on Nov. 10.

3. JSerra 5-5 (68)

Kamar Garbourel ran for 157 yards with three touchdowns and Zander Singh threw three touchdown passes as the Lions finished the regular season with an exclamation point, a 49-0 win over Servite. JSerra is in Division 1 for the playoffs and will play Mater Dei on Nov. 10.

4. San Clemente 9-1 (67)

Aiden Rubin rushed for 195 yards in the Tritons’ 38-24 win over Tesoro to win the South Coast League championship outright. The Tritons are the only Orange County public school in the Division 1 playoffs. They will play St. John Bosco on Nov. 10.

5. Servite 5-5 (62)

One week after a dramatic and crucial win over Santa Margarita the Friars fell flat in a 49-0 loss to JSerra. Servite is in the Division 2 playoffs and will play Valencia of L.A. County in the first round Friday.

6. Santa Margarita 5-5 (59)

Turnovers factored into the Eagles’ 35-19 loss to Mater Dei in their final game of the regular season. They play at Sierra Canyon in the Division 1 playoffs on Nov. 10.

7. Mission Viejo 7-3 (58)

Diablos linebacker Jack Matranga was in on nine tackles and had an interception and Draiden Trudeau threw three touchdown passes in a 52-6 win over Capistrano Valley in the South Coast League. Mission Viejo is seeded fourth in Division 2.

8. Los Alamitos 8-2 (57)

The defense, led by sophomore defensive tackle Manoah Faupusa, shined in the Griffins’ 21-10 win over Edison that gave them a fourth straight Sunset League championship. The Griffins play Upland in the first round of the Division 2 playoffs on Friday at Westminster High.

9. Edison 6-4 (50)

The Chargers had difficulty getting their offense going in a 21-10 loss to Los Alamitos. They play at top-seeded Rancho Cucamonga on Friday in the first round of the Division 2 playoffs.

10. Tustin 10-0 (49)

The Tillers completed their undefeated regular season with a 49-17 win over Cypress. They won the Empire League championship with a 5–0 league record. Tustin plays at home against Warren on Friday in a Division 3 playoff game.
