A La Cañada Flintridge mid-century home renovated by owner Annie Segal, daughter of late Los Angeles tastemaker Fred Segal, is on the market for $3.995 million.

The list price is 78% more than the $2.25 million she paid for the property in June 2022, records show.

Although the listing at the time suggested the 1958 build only needed “a little TLC,” Annie Segal, backed by ASOM Home, the renovation firm she owns with design partner Marieke Ochtman, spent a year preserving the architectural integrity while also updating it.

The centerpiece of the five-bedroom, five-bathroom home is the living room with a vaulted wood-beam ceiling and floor-to-roofline windows that bring the outdoors in. They also frame the wooded surroundings of this three-quarter-acre-plus lot on a quiet street.

“This is a very hot neighborhood close to everything but feels remote and peaceful,” said Rob Kallick of Compass, the co-listing agent.

In designing the residence, ASOM Home’s’ design team took inspiration from “the surrounding elements of nature and the flow and energy that was felt throughout the space,” Annie Segal said.

That included streamlining and opening the kitchen up to the great room with its circular fireplace and built-in storage bench. Glass sliders lead to a wood deck and grassy area outdoors.

The primary suite offers access to the backyard from the bedroom and bathroom, with its modern freestanding tub and separate shower. It also has a walk-in closet with plenty of storage space.

Mary Regal, also of Compass, shares the listing.

Annie Segal is one of Fred Segal’s five children. Her father, who died in February 2021 at 87, left behind a retail legacy that defined “California cool” for 60 years. Annie Segal once ran Fred Segal Originals, but now, in addition to ASOM Home, owns the children’s clothing boutique The Reckless Unicorn with her husband, Derek Reckley.
