All aboard! It’s time for another exciting adventure to Southern California’s best day-cation destinations. Our last road trip took us to the charming town of Ojai, but this time we’re heading to the picturesque Danish-inspired village nestled in the heart of Santa Ynez Valley, Solvang.

For those of you who are new here, I’m the Monthly Traveler, and this is your trusty getaway guide to all the best day-cation spots in the Golden State. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing day trip or an action-packed adventure, I’ve got you covered. So buckle up, grab a snack, and let’s hit the road!

Located about 130 miles away from Los Angeles, Solvang, which means “sunny fields”, is known for its Danish architecture and heritage, making it an ideal destination for those looking for a unique getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life. With its charming streets lined with Danish-style buildings, shops, and delicious eateries, Solvang promises a memorable experience for all.

Velkommen til Solvang!

As we make our way through the town, prepare to be amazed by its enchanting architecture and Danish charm. This quaint town was established by three visionary Danish educators – Reverend Benedict Nordentoft, Reverend J. M. Gregersen, and Professor P. P. Hornsyld. Seeking refuge from the harsh Midwestern winters, they ventured westward, where they purchased 9,000 acres of land in January 1911, giving birth to the truly unique town of Solvang.
